What is Colonic Hydrotherapy?
At Cedar Valley Functional Medicine, we believe that true wellness begins in the gut. Colon hydrotherapy — also known as colon irrigation — is a safe and natural method for cleansing the large intestine using warm, filtered water.
This process helps hydrate the colon, encourage natural elimination, and remove accumulated waste and gas, supporting better digestion, energy, and detoxification.
We use the Angel of Water® open system, an FDA-registered device designed to provide a gentle and dignified experience in a clean, spa-like environment.
What to Expect During a Session
After you’re comfortably positioned, a small sterile nozzle (about 1½ inches long) is self-inserted into the rectum. Warm, purified water then flows gently into the colon at a low, gravity-fed pressure.
The water stimulates the colon’s natural muscle contractions, called peristalsis, allowing waste and water to be released naturally into the basin beneath you. This cycle of filling and releasing continues over the course of approximately 40 minutes, progressively cleansing the colon from the rectum to the cecum. Because the Angel of Water® is an open system, you remain in control of your session. You can pause, release, or adjust the flow at any time. A certified practitioner is present in the room to guide and monitor the process for your safety and comfort.
While the system is designed to minimize odor and mess, some odor or splashing can occasionally occur — this is normal and part of the natural elimination process.
